BlueTunes is a free music streaming service that offers up to 1GB space to store our music files, so that we can listen to them being away from our computer. The advantage of using a service like this is that we can access our music collection from any PC with an Internet connection, and also from devices like iPhone or iPod.
Storing our files on BlueTunes servers requires us to create an account on the site, and also have a Java-enabled browser. From the web interface, we need to browse our hard disk and pick the files we want to upload. The service supports files in MP3, AAC, and M4A formats.
Once we have uploaded the songs, we can listen to them from any web browser using BlueTunes online player, but we are also given the choice to download a software client, BlueTunes Desktop, to play our files without needing to open the web browser. This application, like the online player, allows us to perform the most basic operations, like play/pause, shuffle, search for songs in case we have a big collection, and not much more. It also shows the artwork of the albums we are currently listening, and allows us to create playlists that we can share with our friends.
The application, as well as the service, is free and requires Adobe Air to function.
